How to Connect Slack to Claude Desktop

5 min read • January 28, 2025

Want Claude to send Slack messages, summarize channels, or automate your team communication? This guide shows you how to connect Slack to Claude Desktop in under 5 minutes using Toolsy.

What You'll Be Able to Do

Once connected, you can ask Claude things like:

  • "Summarize what happened in #engineering today"
  • "Send a message to #general about the team meeting"
  • "Find all messages about the API outage"
  • "Post my standup update to #team-updates"

Prerequisites

  • Claude Desktop installed (download here)
  • A Slack workspace where you have permissions
  • A Toolsy account (free)

Step 1: Create a Toolsy Account

Go to toolsy.today and sign up. It's free and takes 30 seconds.

Step 2: Connect Slack

From your Toolsy dashboard, find Slack in the integrations list and click "Connect". You'll be redirected to Slack to authorize the connection.

Toolsy uses OAuth, so you never need to share API keys or tokens. Your credentials stay with Slack.

Step 3: Create Your Slack MCP

Use the AI wizard or manual selection to create an MCP with Slack tools. The wizard is easiest - just describe what you want:

"I want to send messages and read channels in Slack"

Step 4: Copy the Config to Claude Desktop

Toolsy generates a configuration snippet. Copy it and add it to your Claude Desktop config file:

~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Step 5: Restart Claude Desktop

Quit Claude Desktop completely and reopen it. Your Slack MCP will now be active.

Test It Out

Try asking Claude: "List my Slack channels" or "Send a test message to #general"
